Beginings
1st Marine Division
Quantico Marine Corps League
(Left) I'm fresh out of Infantry Training Regiment (ITR) and assigned to Wpns Co.
3rdBn 5thMarines. I'm explaining to my younger brother, Dick, the intricacies,
and
necessities, of "spit shined" shoes. Dick was about to report to
MCRD San Diego for Boot Camp. (Middle) My Father was a Marine in WWII.
(33 year old Private with five kids). He was with the 3rdEngrBn-3rdMarDiv.
(Right) Standing with my two younger brothers,
Dick & Tom. Both would become Marines. Dick was an Engineer; he would
serve with, Charlie Co., 1st Pioneers and MAG-11, 3rd MAW. Tom was an "Airdale".
He served with HMX-1 at MCAS Quantico and aboard the U.S.S. Boxer. We're a Marine Corps family.

I'm the maggot with the circle around his "stacking
swivel". Note: DI's are not wearing "Smokies". They
started wearing them permanently a couple of months after I graduated from
MCRD San Diego. Sixty-two recruits and only two Drill Instructors. Hey! That was enough.
They didn't need any help.
